Dutch Open 2013 - 13/2/2013

Mr Condie and Mr Ferguson along with five T-UK students headed to Eindhoven , Holland for the Dutch open which was held in Best on the 20th of January this year.  The students included

Lyle Walker ( World Cup Junior Sparring Gold medalist)

Lewis Walker ( World Cup Junior Sparring Silver medalist)

Chris McAloon

Gregor Towers

Megan Brodie (2nd Kup)

For Megan, Chris and Gregor, this was their first international with over 17countries competing resulting in over 700 competitors.  Although the rookies did not manage to obtain any medal placings, the experience and learning they took from such a high standard of competition was priceless.  All competed hard and fair and their coaches were extremely pleased with their effort, attitude and performance. This is a great platform for them to build on and prepare for next time.  It was then over to our World Cup Medalists.  Lewis Walker fought very hard and managed to reach the semi final where he was narrowly beaten by a Polish opponenet.  What a great performance and a big step up fighting the "big boys"!  Brother Lyle went one better and managed to secure the Dutch Open Sparring crown to add to his growing list of titles.  Lyle won over oponents from Norway, Poland and Holland to secure his victory with a fine display of accuracy, maturity and great technique.

Both Scottish coaches were highly delighted with the students performance and each one did the Taekwon-Do UK group proud.  The Dutch Open was a very high standard and was organised very proffesionally and it was great to see our friends from PUMA there and also competing excellantly.  On behalf of the T-UK exec board and members I would like to thank Master Van Mortal for his hospitality and great trip.

T-UK will be back there next year hopefuly with a full squad and medal count!
