T-UK 1st English Championships - 26/11/2011

On Saturday 19th November, Taekwondo – UK held it’s 1st English TKD Championships at the Stratford on Avon Leisure Centre.

Competitors, Parents, Officials and Instructors all arrived from Scotland, Manchester, Chester, Wales, Cambridge and from all over the Central region.

The hall and it’s seven rings were expertly set out by Mr. Scriven IV and his team of organisers.

The doors opened at 9am and after introducing the T-UK Seniors and reciting the TKD oath there was a brief welcome and a few words of thanks from T-UK President, Mr Archer VI.

The tournament then started promptly with some very busy pee-wee divisions who showed great skill and talent to receive their new T-UK medals bearing big smiles all round.

The junior divisions were very close especially the male and female Black Belt divisions, some of whom had been competing recently at Scottish and English ITF trials. Big junior divisions look great for our future and the spectators seemed to particularly enjoy the junior special technique section, which again showcased some great talent.

After the junior divisions had finished the adults got underway and again, some very close and exciting bouts were witnessed and enjoyed by all.

Once again the busy destruction category proved popular by both spectators and competitors alike.

Adult Black Belts then started and certainly lived up to everyone’s high expectations.

Top quality bouts were witnessed right from the start from the ladies patterns divisions to the male heavy weight division, many of which had to go to time extensions!

The finale of the day was a team competition between Scotland and England coaches Mr. Condie and Mr. Miley announced their teams and the atmosphere was electric! Again fabulous sportsmanship was shown by both teams and after some close bouts and huge applause it was England that took the honours.

The day was then brought to a close and we all looked forward to the English team championships in Manchester on March, 11th 2012.

After the competition the competitors and spectators all moved across to the Holiday Inn for the T-UK Christmas party. Great food, lots of fun and a fantastic evening ended this awesome weekend.

T-UK would like to say huge congratulations to all competitors and a big thank you to all parents and spectators for supporting this fantastic event.

Also huge thanks must go to all officials who, as always, worked tirelessly throughout the day.

Our final thanks go to all of our T-UK instructors who attended and supported this event on mass, some of whom travelled great distances to be there.

T-UK…………..the future is bright !
